Alyssa’s Answer

Hi Shallete,

I hope all is well. As a Writer myself that didn't go to school for English, Journalism, or Creative Writing,
I have found that by constantly writing and reading up on industry standards and trends, can go a long way
when trying to develop yourself as a writer. You can also begin by blog writing and freelance writing to
develop a rhythm. Determining a niche is crucial. What do you enjoy writing about?

Once you determine what topics you like to write on, it will make it much easier to create content.
If you had an interest in going back to school, the majors I stated above could be great places to start.
Although Academic Writing is specific, knowing the basics of how to effectively write can help in
any industry. I hope this helps, I wish you well on your writing journey!

Victor’s Answer

Hey Shallete - it's a great question, so I want to add on to what Alyssa posted in response as that was a great answer. Finding work
as a freelance writer will be a challenge initially because people will want to see your work before hiring you. You can build your
resume by creating your own content doing the following:

- Submit letters to the editor for your local newspapers
- Create a blog of you own online: as Alyssa advised, write things you care about
- Apply for internships that involve writing - don't be afraid to look beyond your local area as many will now allow you to work from
home. Don't shy away from unpaid internships if they are at popular / large companies. The credibility you gain for the experience
will be well worth it. Search for keywords such; Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Blog, Writer, etc.

Hope this helps!
