Will it take the same amount of time to get certified as an art teacher versus getting certified as a regular teacher?

I want get into education and I'm wondering if there is a difference in becoming one type of teacher over the other....like if there is a different length in schooling. #teaching #education #art #school

An art teacher is a regular teacher who has earned a BA and an MA in art and art education and has been certified by the state where she hopes to teach. The best place to start is to go to the web site of a state board of education and look up the requirements for certification. Here is the site for the state of New York. www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/ Click on "Certification From Start to Finish". On this site you will find a list of the New York State Registered Teacher Preparation Programs. Information about the various colleges and universities will look something like this

PROG CODE PROGRAM TITLE HEGIS AWARD INSTITUTION NAME

--------- ---------------------------------------- ------- ------------ -------------------------

02001 ART TEACHER (K-12) 0831.00 MA CUNY BROOKLYN COLL

You can then contact the college directly about their Art Teacher Program (K-12), and you are off and running. You should expect that the course of study will be similar in length to that of other fields.
