what sort of job should I think about getting if I want a game in the video game industry

Hi Alexis. This has been a pretty popular topic, and we've had a number of folks who have shared some related advice.

Brice and a bunch of others gave a really great answer here about how important it is to get a Computer Science degree if you plan to be a programmer at a gaming company (https://careervillage.org/questions/1881/can-i-get-a-job-at-a-video-game-company-from-high-school-without-going-to-college).
I would also add that if you don't want to be directly involved in the creation of the games, you can also work in gaming in other fields like Marketing (for example you would be marketing games to the customers).

But one thing is for sure in the gaming industry, if you are really serious about getting into gaming, you need to start NOW. You shouldn't even wait until college. If you're going to be a designer, start designing today. If you're going to be a software developer, start building small games right now (yes, that means you should learn to code, and we've got other questions on CareerVillage you can read that will tell you about how to get started coding!)
