If you want to start a career in teaching (elementary, middle, or high school), but you already have a bachelors degree in another field, how would you go about that transition?

I'm asking this question because I started college wanting to study Film, then switched my major to International Affairs so that I could learn Korean and teach English as a Second Language. Even though I do want a degree in International Affairs and don't plan on quitting it, I have considered other degrees to follow a different career path.

Hello Karma -

I SO glad to hear that you want to go into teaching...good for you! To answer your question: I majored in French in undergrad, with a minor in secondary education so that I could teach French. Then, for graduate school I switched and had secondary curriculum and teaching for my major and French as my minor/subject-matter area. That sounds like it would be a good option for you. Inquire and your school, or wherever you plan to attend; I'm sure the counselors can help you set it up.

All the best to you!
