What extracurriculars stand out when applying for medical school?
As a freshman and soon-to-be sophomore, I haven't participated in much on and off campus. I'm worried that I won't be able to find anything I'm very interested in by the time I need to apply. #college #medicine

One of the most important extracuricular activities for a premed is volunteering at a hospital or clinic where you get to interact with doctors and see what their daily lives are like. This will help you answer the question " why you want to be a doctor" which will come up over and over again. You can find other service-related activities though your local pre-med society. Volunteering at health fairs, food drives, local shelters etc. would be a good place to start. Make sure you find an activity that's meaningful for you as you will likely be asked to describe the experience during interviews. The best way to find what you're passionate about is to try as many activities as possible. Good luck!

Try to find opportunities to pursue research.
Volunteer at your local hospital or low-income clinic. Ask physicians, PAs or other clinical providers if you can shadow them.
