How do you remain calm the first few times you respond to a patient coding?

I'm asking this question because as I further my education, I will have more exposure to medical facilities where a patient coding is likely to happen. As prepared as I feel now and will with more training, I know I have a lot of adrenaline, and would like to know tips from a past or present nurse on how to remain calm and think clearly in this high stress situation. #nursing

You always have to remember that no matter what we want the best outcome for the patient at the end of this. So during codes I may appear calm and collected but in the inside stressed/freaking out. It's all about prioritizing your thoughts, communicating effectively with your team during the code, and remaining in your task to see things through. It definitely becomes "easier" (sometimes) when you've been in more codes overtime. codeblue nursing patients hospitalcare
