Lauren’s Answer

Great question! Personally, if I have had a rough day I will see if any other nurses want to go to dinner where we discuss what happened throughout the day. Talking to people who share the same experiences is the best stress relief. I also go to Disneyland to destress. Whenever I am at the happiest place on earth nothing else seems to matter! :)

Nursing is a demanding job and in my opinion the best way to cope with stress is to talk to your colleagues and ask for help.
Every institution has professionals who can help you overcome difficult situations ,actively look for these resources.

Janet’s Answer

Most hospitals or health care facilities offer stress reduction and emotional coping tools such as yoga, mediation, exercise classes. Check with your human resources department at your hospital to see what they offer.

Janet recommends the following next steps:

Check peer review journals for nursing and stress. There are many journals such as American Journal of Nursing. You can find nursing journals at any medical library. Also check medline plus - https://medlineplus.gov/. It's the number 1 consumer health web site published by the National Library of Medicine. Search "nurse" and "stress" or "cope"

Angela’s Answer

This is a great question! There are many ways and everyone copes differently. I bottle it up until the crisis is over, and talk about it with colleagues at work. After work I exercise., see a movie or engage in retail therapy ( shopping:).
