Hey Patricia! I had a similar dream once when I was younger and this is certainly an achievable goal! A good place to start is by doing some research and learning about the fashion industry. It is changing so much right now, which a shifting focus on sustainability, digital transformation, e-commerce, and accessibility. This is good - when an industry gets disrupted, it leaves several gaps, which is great for a budding entrepreneur looking to find a place in an already crowded market. Brick-and-mortar retail stores are almost sure to become a thing of the past, especially with COVID-19 drastically impacting consumer behavior. People shop online more and more every day. My advice is to focus on e-commerce.
There are several brands that have never once opened a single store and have found massive success (check out Revolve, they are a publicly-traded company now). E-commerce is an interesting business model because your focus is in three key areas: your website/app, the clothing that fits your target demographic (whatever style you like!), and the logistics (i.e. shipping). But you don't worry about overhead as it relates to rising rent costs or employing floor sales people. This is good, because technically speaking, you don't have to wait. Once you buy the clothes you want to sell and add them to a platform (you could even start with Facebook or Instagram without paying for a domain), you could launch your own e-commerce store from the house you live in today. There is no barrier to entry.
Start small, do some research, find your style and your demographic, and go for it! There is much opportunity in this space. I wish you much luck along the way!

I think it is great that you have an idea about what you want to do! Do you have an idea about what part of the business? Would you want to partner with someone. Do you have a sense of your strengths? Are you the visionary, the numbers person, the designer? Maybe get experience in all these aspects of running a business to find how to work to insure success! Maybe reach out to successful people who have done that in your community to get a feeling for what it took for them to be successful. Are there business ideas that you would want to use
as a model?

Hi Patricia!
Amanda's answer was AWESOME, I too would like to recommend that you do some research and learn about the fashion industry. Also, I get the feeling that you might be a bit on the entrepreneurial side, there have been many entrepreneurs in the fashion industry-- take Daymond John. He started FUBU in his house I believe-- he had a vision, grit, and drive, my suggestion is to read up on fashion entrepreneurs to see their thought process and maybe you can apply some things to your process. Also like Amanda stated, the industry is changing rapidly so being adaptable is important.
Have fun!
