If you ask any nurse you’ll probably get a different answer every time. You should find want you’re most passionate about and see if that specially/unit exists. As nurses we’re not limited to just working in the hospital or just working bedside. There are many who teach, do research, sit or boards of hospitals, work in policy, the list goes on. Best of luck finding your passion!

I agree with Nyah. As a healthcare recruiter, I place Oncology and Cardiovascular professionals. It is all about the passion and nursing is a career not a job. Every nurse will say something different. If you are starting off your nursing career you will end up trying different things as a nurse and will figure out if you enjoy working with specific patient population whether it's neonatal, pediatrics, adults or geriatrics. You may find that you want to stay in nursing, but do not want to do any hands on patient care, then you can get into so many things like education, navigation, case manager, informatics, patient safety, performance improvement, EMR trainer to nurses, and the list can go on and on. This may not happen right away, but eventually after you learn 101 on patient care. If you are getting your BSN, which is what I would highly recommend because hospitals today prefer this over associates, the school will have you go through clinical rotations, which will give you some idea as to what you would enjoy and then take it from there and remember to always network. Hope this helps and best of luck to you.
