Is it normal to change your career choice throughout college?

I'm asking because I feel like I'll end up changing my career path if Im not motivated or enjoying my path enough. I would like to hear words from others to get an insight of what its really like in college. #college #career-choice

Christy’s Answer

Absolutely. Don't feel bad about that. The more courses you take the better chances you have of discovering a strong interest or passion. You do need to be careful because you want to graduate close to the normal 4 to 5 years so be careful not to lose too much focus. Test the waters though.

Best of luck!

I would not call it normal but it does happen. My advice to resolve this issue as soon as possible. The more you wait the more time and expense you are sacrificing by changing your major.

Hi Keiyonna.

Very good question! Changing your major in not uncommon. Many students start down one path and find they enjoy other areas. That is one of the reasons undergrad students are required to take all the different classes that don't relate to your major. If you are uncertain, take one or two intro classes in your major as well as other classes that fulfill some of the non-major requirements. See if you enjoy other fields.

As Wael pointed out, do it as soon as possible so you don't lose credits. But if you find yourself not liking your major, it's better to switch to something you would enjoy even if you lose some credits. That's my opinion only. I would guess your parents would disagree!

By the way, I started out in Biology with plans to become a Marine Biologist. I ended up with a degree in Computer Science.

Best of luck!

Jeff
