What major should you choose, if you wish to become a primary care sports physician?
Hi,
I´m Cidney. I´m currently a senior in high school looking for a good foundation to build on in college. I know I want to be in the medical field and more importantly, I want to be a sports physician. Although, time is ticking and I could really use some extra advice on maybe some steps you took to get to where you are.
Anyway,
Thanks in Advance :) #sportsphysician

To be a sports medicine physician you will need to go to medical school. Therefore, I would choose a major such as biology, biochemistry, or something in the health field to get all your required classes you will need for medical school. I know at Penn State there is a human health and development major, I am sure other colleges have similar majors as well.

Hi Cid!
Cool question-- that's so awesome that you have an idea of what you want to do-- you're in a much better spot than I was when I was a high school senior haha. I went the hospitality management route, but I still have some basic recommendations for you if you'd like. My first recommendation is to volunteer at your high school if possible, to maybe be on the sidelines of the games and work with the medical professionals to get some hands on experience and dip your toes into the sports medicine/doctor field. I understand that we are in an unprecedented time however, so the hands on volunteering at your school might not be possible where you live. I know physical therapy is only a portion of the sports doctor field, but maybe in your free time-- ask to volunteer at your local PT office if possible-- this will help you get volunteer hours for school, a good recommendation, and again-- dipping your toes into part of the field you want to be in. Here is a link I found with other recommended steps as well: https://www.kenhub.com/en/library/education/how-to-become-a-sports-doctor.
