Diego’s Answer

I majored in psychology and I got in touch with the professors I was talking classes with that I found the most interesting in to pursue a research assistant role in their office. Also, do not hesitate to ask them if you can get in touch with any of their current or former students that were research assistants so that you can ask any questions about how was it working with that particular professor. The most important thing would be to of course, be extremely interested in the field they are teaching in as you will be working long hours on that subject.

M’s Answer

For research assistant experience in the field of psychology, you may want to talk to your undergraduate professors. Sometimes, they are looking for students to help them with a project and this might be a great way to network and foster a relationship for a potential letter of recommendation. You can also visit your school's homepage as they may have access to internships or research opportunities available for students within the area.

Catherine’s Answer

Hi Amar!

Adding to M Chin's answer, if you're interested in undergraduate research, you can email professors in the psychology department of your college whose research you find interesting! Lots of professors are looking for research assistants and those who are interested in your background will schedule a time to speak with you. In your email, you should include why you're interested in that professor's research, any background qualifications, your resume, and a request to meet to chat about their research.

If you're looking for summer research opportunities, here is a link from the APA regarding Undergraduate Research Opportunities and Internships: https://www.apa.org/education/undergrad/research-opportunities. Although some of the links may be out of date, try googling the name of the program to find this year's application!

Good luck!
