As a Pathologist, is more of your work computer based or in a lab/hospital?

I am interested in pursuing a career in pathology and was wondering what this aspect of the job was like. #medicine #pathologist #pathology

It is both. Before computers, i.e. Google Search, etc., your work day involved looking at microscopic slides from surgical specimens, performing autopsies, overseeing the various parts of the lab, i.e. blood banking, microbiology, etc., preparing for conferences, attending meetings and teaching. Today, your work day is in many respects still the same, however, computers have aided the pathologist in being more efficient, finding information quicker, putting together better reports and lectures, and doing a better job at teaching. To function well professionally you must have a firm understanding of computers. Used properly and with understanding of what computers can do, I believe they aid the Pathologist in performing at a higher level of practice.

Having said the above, Google Search does not and should not repalce an up-to-date professional library. Although Google gives you quick access to information, the information you acquire may not necessarly be correct. This is one of the reasons why we will always need well funded professional libraries.
