Edgar’s Answer

I've found that creating SMART goals is a good way to set goals and work towards achieving them.

S- Specific. Be specific with what you want to achieve and how you plan on achieving it. If your goal is to do something x times, then be specific with the numbers relating to your goal.
M- Measurable. You should have some way of measuring or tracking your progress on your goal. For example, if you want to run every week, then you can use the time spent running or distance you ran to measure your progress on this goal.
A- Attainable. I would suggest creating goals that are achievable and possible.
R- Realistic. Be realistic and be aware that your goal may come with small or significant obstacles, and that different goals may come with various degrees of challenges.
T- Time-bound. Give yourself a deadline to complete this goal or make progress on this goal. If your deadline is "sometime in the future", then that may not motivate you as much as setting a more specific deadline, like January 2021.

Georgi’s Answer

If your goal is easy to achieve it is probably not ambitious enough and rarely worth pursuing in the long run. It would be better to have a vision/dream of what you want to become or do and then take small steps over a long period of time to achieve it. These small steps/achievements that will show you that you are making progress and keep you motivated for the long marathon that is ahead of you.

Listen to interviews of successful people and you will notice that all of them enjoyed the journey at least as much as the final destination. Therefore you should make sure that the goals that you set for yourself are really the thing you want to achieve. If you do not get this right all the goal setting and goal achieving will not make you feel fulfilled.

Shelby’s Answer

Hi Smythsam.

I have found it to be very helpful to write my goals down and look at the often. It's great to check in with your goals and see where you are at in the process. Sometimes it's helpful to make smaller goals to help you reach your bigger goal. I have also started to give myself a little reward or treat to celebrate my accomplishments.

Gina’s Answer

Set realistic goals-- write them down and revisit them daily. Try to work on them in small increments. Also developing a daily structure and system will help keep you on track.

Craig’s Answer

Hi Smythsam,

I have found it necessary to set lofty goals but also make sure they are achievable. Then I like to see if I can turn the goal into a series of steps that I can achieve. That will really help give you the confidence you need to keep trying! One other thing is to find someone, if you can, who has already accomplished what you are trying to do. Ask their advice. See if they would be willing to coach or mentor you. Good luck!
