Sanket’s Answer

I am assuming that you are already doing master's in commerce. If you are not then don't do it. You can study other computer related degrees like BSC IT, MSC IT, MCA, BE in comp/IT if you want to have career in computer softwares.
In case you are already doing master's in commerce then you still can get jobs in software companies as every company requires people with auditing or other commerce related background. You can apply to commerce related areas in software companies but those jobs will be much less than software development jobs since its a software company.

Rajesh’s Answer

you can use your basic education of commerce and there are all sorts of software companies that will require this - ex - even a CA firm may want you to work on their services that they offer to organizations like filing taxes, or managing company accounts etc.
Also if you do courses in computers such as MCS, MCA, etc this can add value to your career growth.
Advice is surely do additional value add courses in computers/software and as previously also mentioned many software companies need the expertise.

Raj’s Answer

Software companies not just hire folks who can write code. They hire folks who have functional skills. As commerce student, you would have skills in accounting, budgeting and taxes. There are many companies (example Intuit, Workday) that create accounting software or implement it for different customers and need functional experts. They also hire business analysts who need to know what the software should do but need not write the code.
