Hi Emily:
In order to be a surgeon its a total of (4) years in high school, (4) years in college, (4) years of medical school and then (3-4 years) of residency. Residency is when you are in training, but you are a doctor and are getting paid. It is a lot of information to know to become a surgeon, but that is why there is so much schooling and training. By the time you are ready to be solo, you have learned the material.

Hi Emily! In order to be a surgeon you need to first go to college for four years, then you need to go to medical school for another four years, and after medical school you need to train under a surgeon (this training is called residency) for about 3-7 years depending on what kind of surgeon you want to be (for example general surgeons train for 3 years while brain surgeons train for 7 years). Like anything in life it is hard to go through this process and learn everything you need to learn but with hard work, discipline, and dedication it is completely possible. Hope this helped!
