Ruth’s Answer
No dear. You need to take care of yourself and your family too.
High powered careers with research and administration duties on top of medical practice may well take a toll on personal life , but with a caring sharing partner all is possible.

I certainly agree with Ruth, however, I would also add a few things.
1. Pursuing medicine can admittedly be a long and hard process. However, in my case, I have not let it take over my life. Rather, it is integrating into my life as I allow it.
2. Most people pursue medicine because they have a passion for it. Often times, this does lead into their personal life being influenced by their career-- as most careers would.
3. Many people would describe medicine as "a way of life", but for those people, they want it to be an important part of themselves.
Finally, it is certainly possible to separate work and life and you can customize your career however you want!

Rafael’s Answer
Certainly not.
I’m in the medical industry as an electronics engineer. I love and have passion for what I do, but certainly I can separate career, family, church and personal life. I only have 24 hours like everyone else and make the best out of my time. In school they don’t teach you how to manage your time or how to be debt free. I had to learn that by myself.
I learned that you have to choose a career that not only rewards you monetarily, but also a career where you develop passion for it. It will make you happy and feel that you are helping and contributing into people’s life.
