In any profession, your free time and schedule depends on what you want and set up for yourself. Some doctors work 20 hours a week, some may work 60. It's important to have a work-life balance in any profession in order to take care of yourself as well as your patients.

Estelle’s Answer

Ophthalmologists that I know definitely have free time to enjoy their leisurely activities. They usually set their work hours, and their offices are open 8a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday only. Most of them occasionally take emergency call, but their schedules are fairly regular. They usually do not work on weekends unless they are on call.
Thank you comment icon Hey, there is not much info about ophthalmologists' daily lives and schedules so this was very helpful. Thank you! Pamela
