Laboratory experience is valuable, as well as courses in statistics and mathematics. A bachelor’s or master’s degree will enable you to work in the lab. A Ph.D. will enable you to direct and manage studies. "
https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/how-to-become-a-toxicologist states "In the U.S., toxicologists are not required to carry a state license in order to practice. However, after you have several years of field experience as a toxicologist, a certificate from the American Board of Toxicology can change the nature of your employment opportunities. Board-certified toxicologists will likely receive larger grants, higher salary rates and greater esteem among their colleagues. Board certification is offered in general toxicology as well as in specific fields such as forensic toxicology and pharmaceutical toxicology."
