Estelle’s Answer
Much of the time, anesthesiology is routine. Putting healthy patients to sleep for routine surgeries nonemergently. However, when emergencies arise or patients are extremely ill or unstable, the anesthesiologists are often the difference between survival and not. They have to be calm and quick on their feet and able to work well in stressful situations. They have to know about all kinds of medical illnesses and drug interactions and reactions. They often have long hours and overnight calls.
