Taylor’s Answer

As a current pharmacy intern in a retail setting (i.e. Walgreens, CVS, Walmart etc.) you work with patients every day. You can discuss patient's medications and counsel them on how to properly take them and side effects. In addition, I provide immunizations/vaccines to patients. I also help patients find over the counter items to treat various ailments. Hope this helps!

Nicole’s Answer

Hello Abigale,

It all depends on your profession within healthcare! As a managed care (health plan/health insurance) pharmacist, I work with patients about 50% of the time. How often I work with patients depends on the exact role I'm in as well. For example, if I was focused more on business as a pharmacist, I would not be working very closely with patients. If I was focused on clinicals (patient health/patient care), I would be spending 80% of my day talking to patients.

In general, pharmacists on average spend about 75% of their time with patients doing patient care. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Nicole recommends the following next steps:

Find out what career within health care you like (ex. Google, asking people working in health care, school career counselors, etc.)
