Being a pilot is an earned honor in this world. For me, the science behind flight, the weather, the mechanical operations of the aircraft, the art of operating the aircraft and the satisfaction of completing a flight safely are but a few of the rewards of being a pilot. Since no two flights are identical, every flight has its own challenges. From the time that I start my trip to the airport, through the pre-flight checks, the start-up, the taxi, the pre-takeoff checklist, the take-off, flight, landing and securing of the aircraft all have their own contribution to the overall excitement of the flight. I have noticed that the true aviators that I have had the privilege of flying with over the years have never lost the sense of excitement associated with flight. I have heard it said that once you have experienced flight (I would include "as a pilot"), you will always look to the sky above. For me, that has been true.
Take an orientation flight, a Young Eagles flight or a flight with a friend.

Carter,
Being a pilot has a lot of great parts. As a job itself: it is very rewarding, fast changing, challenging, fast pace and elegantly dangerous...just to mention a few. You get to Operate very advanced, technological, and fast machinery. Your office has the most amazing views of any office in the world....and they constantly change so you will never get tired. As you already know, you to get to explore different parts of the country/world and with that you get to meet tons of different people, see new cultures, and try all kinds of different foods. Although is not cheap to become a pilot, for the most part, its a job that pays wells and has great benefits, so thats always a plus. Another attractive part is that, in general, you do not bring the work home. So you can say there is a great quality of life if you know how to balance work and you personal life.
Above all, the best part its probably the feeling of flying. Its hard to explain but you will get it once you do it.

If you have your drivers license think back to the first time you got in a car by yourself, decided where to go, how long to stay, and when to leave. Do you remember the freedom you felt then? Now imagine if there were no traffic lights, no stop signs, not even lanes or curbs to limit your choices. Even gravity surrenders to your will. That is what it's like to first get your pilots license. After that the choices truly are endless. Do you enjoy staying close to home and dancing among familiar skies or do you want to continue to explore and see the world in ways very few ever will? And then there is the question of what to fly. There's the tried and true single-engine prop for a relaxing trip to your neighboring state, the ever-quiet glider if you want to truly be one with the wind, or the ultra-light for staying local and having fun. If you choose to make it a career there's anything from flying helicopters around Hawaii or out to oil rigs, to firefighting, traditional commercial aviation, search and rescue, military, and many more. If your dream (like mine) is aviation, the possibilities are as big as the sky.
