What are some of the best schools for air traffic controlling, and is there any schools that have this training for this occupation in New Jersey.

Im a junior in high school and im looking into becoming an air traffic controller when I graduate college. I have an aunt that works as one in Oberlin OH and ive asked her questions but I dont see her as much so I thought it would be good to ask her. I play sports so I have the working with people/groups as a team so I need no help in that part. My most important questions are the ones I said because I dont know where to go for it. Ive looked up places online too see but I would rather have someone whos been there and done that, that could give me better advice for where to go. #high-school #college-major #career #college

The prior answer is quite thorough; however, I would simply add that you could also consider the Air Force. This would give you real world experience as well as a paycheck.

Hi Matthew,
In the northeast, select schools offer programs in Air Traffic Control and Aviation. There are not many programs for Air Traffic Control in NJ, but in NY there are several schools within the SUNY system:

- SUNY Schenectady's Air Traffic Controller Associate's degree program: https://sunysccc.edu/Academics/Liberal-Arts/Academic-Programs/Air-Traffic-Control-AAS.html

- SUNY Farmingdale's Aviation Department offers several degrees that may be worth exploring based on your interest: https://www.farmingdale.edu/curriculum/bs-avn.shtml

- SUNY Dutchess Community College offers Avation Administration degrees: https://www.sunydutchess.edu/academics/catalog/current/programs/aviationscience/avm.html
