What kind of laptop would be the best for a Computer Science Major?

Hi! I'm going to be majoring in CS, but I still have a few years before I go off to college- therefore, I need something that will still be relevant and is able to update to the new software necessary for what I'll be doing in CS over the next few years. I won't be using it for gaming, so display won't really be that crucial. I am more comfortable with apple products, but realize that will probably limit my access to new coding softwares I will need in class. I really appreciate any advice you have for me! #technology #coding #computers #computer-savvy #laptops

Ahmed’s Answer

If you are comfortable with Apple products, go for it. There is a software on MAC OS X (actually there is 2) called VMware Fusion or Parallel Desktops that will allow you to use Windows softwares on your MAC.
So you get the best of both worlds

Manuel’s Answer

Hi Kylie, When I was in college I used a Macbook and I didn't have any issue with the programming tools or software. Most of them are already supported on MacOS and as Ahmed said, in case you need a PC running Windows, you still have the option of a virtual machine.

I did some research, an according to the following website, an apple macbook is the best laptop for computer science students in 2019:

Hope this help you!

Qiannan’s Answer

I am a master student in CS and doing software engineering intern at Google this summer. If you are seeking advises for laptop, I would like to say most of my classmates (over 70%) just use MacBook. Some of them use MacBook Air and it is actually sufficient for most programming use, especially if you are not prepare to use it for games. I myself use a MacBook pro 13', and I find it pretty sufficient so far.

Hope that helps!
