HI Noah, your question can be more specific , however, will suggest some what I feel you may be looking for. First of all identify what are you targetting to advertize, what is the product or a service that you are after and who are you targetting. Based on this you can decide whether you want to do digital advert or print or sign board or bill board etc.. thanks vikram

Hi Noah,
I agree with Vikram. Focus on who your customer is and understand why they need your product. Understanding your potential customer base is the most important part of creating a successful advertisement. Creating targeted advertisements for certain groups of people will help you generate a return on your investment. For example, if you want to sell athletic shoes, it makes sense to advertise during sports games because the people watching those games are likely potential customers for your shoes. Overall, understand your customers and design ads that suit them.

Some really good answers from Vikram and Cody, so I'll take another angle in response. Identify who your competitors are, and see what they're doing. To continue the example of a shoe brand, identify industry leaders (e.g. Nike, adidas). Where are they advertising - which social media platforms, websites, magazines, TV shows for commercials? What sort of media are they producing - still images, GIFs, video content, partnering with influencers? How well does that seem to be working? Does the company seem to be in touch with their target audience? If their ads are missing the mark, why? Understand the landscape you'll be playing in.
