Latoya’s Answer

I say follow where your heart and desires lead, as you mature, perhaps there will be opportunities for internship or "A day in the life", to get a clear idea of where your true passion lies. The path leading to college will also help form a better picture. I think that profession itself lies closely with who you are and what motivates you. Hope this helps

Brenda’s Answer

Hi Ashley - when I worked at the VA hospital, I worked with detectives and medical examiners. You have to decide which way to go. Detectives get their answers from the living, and the ME gets their answers from the dead. A good book to read is, "Dead Men do Tell Tales." I forget the name of the ME who wrote it. The first chapter is little dry as he goes through his credentials, but after that, he gets into cases that he was involved in. It takes a special person to be a Coroner or ME. My cousin is a Coroner. She gets called out at all times of day and night to take of human remains from accidents, suicides, murders, etc. including kids and geriatrics. It is a thankless, hard, heavy job. Not for the faint of heart but very important. I couldn't do it.
