- Be a good listener. Understand what your clients need.
- Network! Get to know other agents in the business - they aren't necessarily your competition, they will also be your partners when you are in deals together. If you're good, they will be more likely to refer you or advocate for you to their clients at the right time.

The most important skill to be a real estate agent is being able to stay organized and sell. People who transition into Real Estate from previous sales backgrounds are the most successful I've seen. You're practically running your business, without much management, so it's important to have the right work ethic and good time management as well.

Hi Brandon! If you are talking about residential real estate sales, the number one skill you need is to be highly personable with the confidence to sell yourself as the best person to trust for the job. Real estate sales is about building relationships and building trust with your buyers and seller, this takes social skills that are not easy for everyone. Obviously, to be a good realtor, you need to have the knowledge to do the job. The more knowledge you have of market conditions, construction, law, zoning, contracts, etc. are all highly beneficial. With the right attitude and work ethic you can gain the knowledge. Becoming a highly personable individual with confidence to build trust is more difficult, this is more about your personal nature.

Knowledge. If you know more than your competitors, you provide a lot more value to your clients compared to other people. As David has also pointed out, being organized is also a skill that is quite important. If you're organized on the various properties that you are selling, able to also promote the rentability / occupancy of certain properties (say you are also acting as a property manager), I think these are important skills to have. I highly suggest listening to various podcasts, reading books, or looking up currently successful real estate agents as well as inspiration on what you could work on to improve your current skillset.
