Hello Miss. Kathryn B. Thanks for your question. "What classes do I need to take in highschool to be a pastry chef?"
My name is Mr. Frank O., I am a TESOL Teacher in Finland Europe. (TESOL = Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). When I was at highschool my dream was to be an engineer like my father. I did pretty well at highschool and was always in the top 10 students at the end of each term. I was bullied at highschool and decided to leave at age 15, my dad got me an apprenticeship as a motor engineer at the garage where he got his company car serviced. There was a recession in the economy and I was unemployed. At age 15 you are a child so you do what your parents tell you. Everyday I was unemployed was the day my father took me to the unemployment office to see if they had any apprenticeships available. I got lucky, a job had just come in 5 minutes before I arrived at the unemployment office. An apprenticeship as a Bread Baker and Flour Confectioner. My father was very positive and reminded me that his brother also called Frank had run his own Cake shop in Brighton in the South of England. My father said that I could do the same after I complete the 4 year indentured apprenticeship and attended Liverpool College of Crafts and Catering every Wednesday until I was fully Qualified. Hi Kathryn! In high school I would recommend a cooking class, there was one at my high school and my friends would make delicious treats! Also maybe a business class would help as well if you want to learn how to set up your own pastry shop in the future!
Best of luck!
