If you plan to go into nursing, you'll want to take plenty of math and science classes in high school, which will prepare you well for a career in nursing. When you get into your nursing program, you'll have an opportunity to study science, anatomy, social sciences and also do clinicals. Nurses have great career opportunities, from doctor's offices and hospitals to health plans and healthcare administration. Nurses are always sought after and in demand. Good luck!

Hi Arabella,
My sister-in-law spent 20 years as a nurse and is now a nurse educator. When I have talked to her about the classes that she did in high school, she excelled in science courses such as chemistry and biology. She cared a lot about her own physical health and learned as much as she could about her physical health. She was even a cheerleader to stay healthy. Plus it was fun.
When I was young, you could not earn college credit in high school. Now there are opportunities to do just that. If you are able to go to a high school and earn college credit while you are there, this can be very helpful with college expenses. Also, make sure that you earn college credits in areas that support your nursing goals. Do you want to be a specific type of nurse? My sister-in-law did not decide until she had learned about the variety of medical fields. You should decide if you want to be an RN versus nurse practitioner, since the educational requirements are different.
Nursing is a noble and in-demand profession. I am glad that you are thinking about pursuing it. Good luck.
