What does it take to become a geographer?

Geography has always been a passion of mine. I grew up in a diverse neighborhood and I'm familiar with many different cities, flags, countries, monuments, etc. as not everyone in my neighborhood was American. Ever since I won my 7th grade Geography Bee, I knew geography was one of my strengths. What exactly does it take to become a geographer? What are some essential skills required to be successful in this field? Thank you! #career #doctor #anyone #classes #geography #geographer

Hi, Joel
Are you know, geography is broadly defined and the study of the physical and human imprint on the planet and how those two world relate and interact. To answer your fundamental question, it really takes curiosity and the desire to put effort into tyour more formal studies. Because geography is keenly interested in exploring spatial relationships, there are several technique areas that you can study from cartography, to geographic information systems, remote sensing and statistical methods. As you prepare for your studies at a college/university you will probably refine your interests and see if the physical world or landform, climate and the environment or if culture, economy, or social areas become more of a focus for you. Whichever, having that appreciate for the the patterns, processes and places that make our home here as interesting as it is suggests you will enjoy your journey into the world of geography.

Geography is so critical in the modern world as it connects people, places and things. As a geographer you can understand how, what and where certain events happen. You have the option of learning from human geography to physical geography and apply it to your day to day activities. The advent of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has really spread the need of learning geography to understand disparity in patterns of demography, health, spending habits and many more. Wish you continue your passion for Geography.
