Hi Coby. I started my career as a developer and now I'm an application security analyst. A career in computer engineering is challenging as the field constantly evolves but it is also very exciting! I like learning new things all the time. If you like the STEM subjects that you're doing in school now, this field is probably for you.
Good luck!

Hi Coby,
This is a great question! Computer engineering, like many technology fields, is definitely one that is continuously evolving as advancements are made. In my experience, this means that you'll end up striking a balance between solving problems and continuing your education. While it can sometimes be disheartening to not always know how to solve a particular problem right away, don't let that discourage you. Every challenge you face is another opportunity to learn and become a better engineer!
I find that expanding my knowledge by working through challenging problems is one of the most rewarding parts of the field. A constantly changing environment means that you're constantly doing something new, and I find that this keeps me engaged with my work and excited about what I could potentially get to learn about next.
Best of luck!

Hi, I'm in my 35th year of being a computer engineer. Let's just say there have been a few changes in the last 35 years. I started before Google, before any adoption of the internet, and just after the personal computer.
That's exactly what made my career exciting.
You have the opportunity to learn new things every day as part of your job. You could say I've done the exact same thing for the whole time (I've been in a pretty similar role) but the changes in technology have made it a good environment for continuous learning.

It really depends on your comfort and adaptability. If you want to learn new technologies, the constantly changing environment and technology is great! If you'd prefer to focus on one specific thing, then that's certainly possible, too. And you can definitely change your mind. If you start learning about a particular technology while things are changing and you develop a deep interest, there's nothing keeping you from being able to switch gears and look for jobs with that technology as a focus. I've certainly gone through several of those cycles in my career.
