Hi Coby,
Some unexpected things could be having more responsibilities of your studies and having to figure out where you want to get a job after graduation.
From my experience at college, it was very helpful to join a club that was closely related to my major. I was able to make some friends who had similar concerns so we shared some tips and information about classes, internships or interview tips. So when I had problems or issues with studying, I could always get some help from my friends in the club. The club that I joined regularly invite professionals to give a speech and have a discussion with students. This could give me an opportunity to practice social skills and have more experience speaking in a professional manner.
I hope this helps!

Hi! Every experience is going to be different but it is completely up to you for how it goes. Take your freshman year seriously academically because it'll pay off once you start taking more advance classes and may need that extra GPA boost. Don't be afraid to talk to your professors, advisors, and classmates either! Building relationships with these people will be helpful in the long-run say you need any letters of recommendations which most times you do. Also know that everyone's college timeline is different too, some finish before four years and others take longer. Do whatever you need to do to set yourself up for success. Enjoy the social scene too! Join clubs, make friends, go out, but in the end make sure to find that good balance between academics and social life. Another thing I wish I knew is, if you have a career goal, start looking into requirements for that job to help you start building your resume. The better you build your resume while doing your undergrad, the easier it will be to get a job after graduation. There will have some heavy patches for sure but find something to help keep you motivated and again, ask for help!!

Hi Coby! I would recommend to be as organized as possible, carry a planner, mark your calendars for tests and assignments due and get to know your professors. Definitely devote time to studying especially since you are entering with a blank slate in college and your first GPA as a freshmen will set the foundation for the remaining GPA's; you can of course improve each year but one thing I realized was doing well in my first year definitely helped me more so than I initially thought. Next, the weather did catch me off guard at times, because in college you are walking more than high school and are outside more as well. I would recommend to get coats and scarves and have a strong umbrella for windy and rainy weather because you can definitely get soaked walking to class/work- which unfortunately happened for me because I didn't plan too well. Lastly, each semester you will be planning your classes basically making schedules for the classes you plan to take and based on your grade level you will be assigned a time to log onto the system of your university and select class, therefore I would recommend to make 3 schedules. It is best to prepare extra schedules like for example if you need to take 4 or 5 classes make sure to make schedules where they can vary with date and time, because classes go quickly, especially with higher grade level students having "first dibs"- but don't worry that will also be you in the future too. Make sure to meet with your adviser on preparing for classes and making sure you are ready for each upcoming semester. Other than that for me college was very nice, I met great professors, formed strong friendships and really grew as a person, I hope the best for you as well!
Best of luck!
