Hi Isaiah, this is a question that a lot of high schoolers have asked themselves, myself included. After having gone through college, it is much more important to learn about something you love, not necessarily something that will “make a lot of money”. The truth is, you can major in business and have a very high paying job out of school, or you can major in business and have a relatively low paying job. I think it is much more important to think about majoring in something that truly interests you.

Hi Isaiah,
A degree in Business can include a lot of different concentration areas such as marketing, finance, consulting, operations, sales, etc. Starting salaries can vary widely depending on the industry you are in, your employer, where you live, and the job you take. I encourage you to think beyond salary to also consider what your interests are, and what you are good at to begin exploring potential career paths.
Many schools hold networking events with companies from different industries which is a great way to learn more about careers in those fields and find a good fit for you. Internships are also a great way to try out different types of jobs to find what you like (or what you don't like) before you begin a career.

Hey Isaiah,
That's a great question but is unfortunately not something that has a specific answer. A business degree can encompass a lot of different things and here are just a few that you can go into: Marketing, Finance, Management, Advertising, and Accounting. But within each of those categories there are so many things you can do with the degree.
As people above me have said, it's very important to try and figure out exactly what you're interested in doing most. I got a Management degree and started a career in sales because I love talking to and connecting with people. If you're someone who might enjoy numbers or analytics then there's an opportunity to go into finance or accounting. You can do a lot with a business degree and there are plenty of opportunities to make good money with that degree but the same holds true to other degrees as well. You'll be able to do well regardless of degree if you work hard and try to do something that you enjoy doing.

Hi isaiah,
Business is a broad category. It depends on what career you want to have in business. There are a wide variety of jobs where you can use a business degree. From owning your own business to a job in Human Resources at a large corporation, there are a wide variety of salaries. I would look at a site such as this to get started: https://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/rankings/best-business-jobs
I want to add that a job is not just about the salary that you get. When you consider a job, you should also look at the benefits that you receive, from the cost of health care to the amount of vacation days that you get. Some companies pay a bit less because the benefits are more robust.

Hi Isaiah,
Like others mentioned, it really depends on the job roles you apply for and end up working in. The good thing about a business major is that it's so versatile. For example, I went to a business school and we had the option to have "concentrations" in finance, marketing, accounting, data science, international business, social impact, etc. In any of these kinds of business jobs there are a variety of roles that offer a wide array of salaries. It also really depends on the city you work in. More expensive cities like New York and San Francisco will often pay employees more because the cost of living is hire.
In general, I think you should look for roles that play to your interests and strengths. If you really enjoy the work you are doing, you will be successful and money will come along with that. I also think its important to apply to companies that you know will want to see you grow and get promoted. This will allow you to always keep learning but also get rewarded for the work you do!
Hope this helps!
