I am a 11th grader and I am considering to be an A.S.L interpreter. What do I need to have this as a career? #deafpride

Hi Jayleen,
This is a great career goal! My understanding is that the need for interpreters is rising as we find ourselves using remote systems like Zoom more and more. You should plan on getting a bachelor’s degree for two reasons: (1) having broad, liberal arts knowledge is helpful as you’re interpreting a variety of topics, and (2) you’ll need to make sure you’re proficient in ASL and familiar with deaf culture. While I’m not a full expert myself, I do have some interpreter friends who recommend this website for more information: https://rid.org/about-rid/about-interpreting/become-an-interpreter/
I hope this helps and good luck with your studies!
