Hi Brooklin! So my friend and I took similar classes in college; I was premed and she was a pre-nurse field. I'll start off with college because there are certain classes that are required for nursing school such as biology, chemistry or physics along with others. There may be some differences for medical school and nursing school, so when you begin college definitely be aware of the classes you need to take by speaking with your adviser. For medical school you can be any major but only take prerequisites and apply but for nursing school this may be different because you will be in a. bachelor's of science route with an RN; my friend who is in nursing school now was a Biology major. This definitely required hard work-as with all prehealth fields- but also gave her the chance to take a variety of classes that were also upper level and required more critical thinking.
In high school, I would suggest AP classes like biology, physics or chemistry as well as Anatomy and Physiology. Getting as much exposure to science beforehand will help in college as well because in prehealth fields you will be studying a lot, especially the hard sciences, and being comfortable with them before can make it easier. If there are psychology and sociology classes I would also take them because a diverse perspective can help in the healthcare fields; you can also take them at college if you prefer! Hope this helps!
Best of luck!

Hello Brooklin,
Great question! I would suggest taking medical classes such as A&P 1 and 2, medical terminology, and pathophysiology. I am currently in nursing school to become an RN. I got my Associated degree in Allied Health Science before applying to my nursing program because they had all the prerequisites I needed. I would suggest looking into which program you want to attend and see what their prerequisites are. This would give you a better idea as to which classes you should take before applying to the program. I hope this helps. Good luck!- Paula

Medical terminology would be a good class, as well as learning about different cultures, and communication classes.
Most likely some of these will be required as prerequisites to the nursing program, or part of the nursing program, when you go to college. You can talk to a counselor at a local community college and see if they have a nursing program and see what kind of classes they require.
