What veterinary and vet tech careers have the best salary (approximately)? Can I be able to travel and still be involved in this career path?
I'm currently a high school (junior) and passionate about pursuing a career in the animal medical field. I enjoy helping others especially animals and still deciding on my future goals. #career-path #career #studyabroad #veterinary #vettech #career-choice #career-paths #animals #travel

Hi Yamileth, I would agree with Nicole and Julie that you can definitely travel as a veterinarian, relief veterinarians especially. They go to practice wherever in the world help is needed, and can work for a day, a week or longer. I would be sure to have a plan ahead of time on how you are going to pay for your education & limit debt. Being in debt can limit your abilities to travel and the options you have for jobs, buying a house or a practice. One option to consider would be the military, the Army hires vets, will pay for schooling in some cases, and travel is definitely an option.
You can contact the Vet school at UC Davis for info on admission and tuition, contact an Army recruitment station for info on enlisting, and there may be a college or vocational school in your area that has info on being a veterinary technician.

Hi Yamileth! I would second Julie's answer; veterinarians do not make the same fortunes that human doctors do. That said, if your ultimate goal is to help animals and make the world a better place, then you will definitely extract a lot of meaning from this career.
Your options for travel can include anything from being a traveling veterinarian to visiting other states/countries and doing work there (i.e. there are many veterinarians who travel around doing pop-up spay and neuter clinics for stray dogs in certain areas, or traveling to animal rescues to provide healthcare for their animals).
The sky is the limit - you can create your own career that may not exist. You can start your own veterinary practice, sit on the board of an animal welfare nonprofit, or do volunteer work with animals on the side to supplement your career. Speaking of which, you can also do side-jobs to supplement your income as a veterinarian. (Anything from adhoc work such as TaskRabbit or ridesharing, to selling things on eBay or Craigslist, investing, doing arts / crafts and selling them online (e.g. on Etsy), etcetera.)
Dream big. There are absolutely no limits to what you can do! :) If animals are your passion, do not let money discourage you. There are countless ways to make money. Prioritize your happiness and fulfillment.
I wish you all the best!
