David’s Answer

Hi, Mary! I agree with Stacie's answer. Having just a degree in English would not prepare you for working as a professional librarian. A Master of Library Science degree is the professional qualification. However, if you have both degrees, you would be in good shape!
Good luck!

Ayodele’s Answer

If you are looking to one day become a librarian, your undergrad degree can be in any area. But, you will need to get a Master’s Degree in Library Science to get your first professional position. Certain support staff or work study positions do not require a Master’s degree. For instance, I worked in a library on campus for three years while I was an undergrad. It may be be a good idea for you to pursue such a position so that you can get a feel for the profession.

Stacie’s Answer

It depends upon the position. Most professional librarians have a Masters of Library Science.
