Lindsay’s Answer

Yes! Often Masters programs require that you have a bachelor's degree, but they don't specify what subject. It's best to look at individual programs and see what course requirements they have, so you know which ones you are eligible for, as well as see what courses you might need going forward. I know someone who graduated with a bachelors in education, but is going on to get a PhD in psychology!

Don't hesitate to reach out to different programs about what you can do to improve your application as well! They are more than happy to direct you to the right place.

Lindsay recommends the following next steps:

Look at different programs and see what their requirements are
Cross-reference with completed coursework
Contact programs about what you can do next/inquire about program

Hi Tatiana,

Yes, you absolutely can! I have never seen a psychology Masters program that required your bachelors to be in psych. Similar to medical schools, people enter psychology graduate programs from many different backgrounds.

Psych Masters programs (depending on exactly which kind) WILL require you to have taken a certain number of credits or courses in related things such as life science, statistics, research methods, etc. The awesome thing about you being a biology major is that you likely had to complete all these same requirements anyways!

I was a psych major in college with a minor in biology, and there was a lot of overlap in the kinds of classes required for a psych Masters program. Check the prerequisites for the specific program you want to apply to, but generally speaking, you should be absolutely prepared to enter the program if you have a biology degree.

Best of luck!

Alexandra, CareerVillage.org Team recommends the following next steps:

Look up prerequisites for each Masters program you're applying to (found on their website - if not, call admissions!)
Confirm that you've completed the minimum requirements as part of your biology major/psych minor.
