I agree that the answer to this question varies in the state you practice in. But most states allow optometrists to do procedures in office such as remove foreign bodies from the eyes (like pieces of metal) and epilate (pluck) eyelashes that are growing into the eye. In some states, optometrists can drain styes in office, remove other eyelid lesions, and perform probing and irrigation of the lacrimal drainage system.
