How should I choose which career I want to take on?
I've always wanted to be a physician. But after taking medical classes at my high school, I've started to lose interest. Then, recently, I've thought of becoming a school counselor...but I feel like I'm not good at communicating with people and I've heard that school counselors don't do much counseling. Now I don't know what I want to be. I'm going to be a senior for 2016-2017 school year...and I want to choose a major that I'll know for sure I'll stick on...I want to do my research...but I need an advice. How should I choose which career to take on? #college-major #careers #school-counselor

The most important thing is to find something you like and then focus on doing that. Then, you will do your best and the job will always be fun. So, it is good you are finding this out now. It is OK to change your major in college or even change careers later in life. When I was in high school and college, I was not sure either. But after taking various courses, I finally found out that IT was perfect for me. I even ended up going back to college later in life. Good luck!

Collegeboard.org is a great resource for this! I poured through the pages of universities all over the U.S. when I was a senior in high school. Collegeboard was my go-to site! They put all of the information in one place and it is very easy to use. They even have various filters you can apply to see only colleges that have programs you are interested. To determine academic rigor, look at the admissions requirements, G.P.A. of past admitted applicants, SAT/ACT scores, class rank etc. This will give you an idea of what scores and grades you need to be accepted. However, don't be discouraged your application will be reviewed based on the full picture! College-board will help you get an idea of what is most important to the specific school you are applying to.
This professional recommends the following next steps:
- Chat with your Guidance Counselor
- Create a Collegeboard.org account
- Start using CollegeBoard as a resource to look up schools.

Hi Mary,
You seems to be a person that appreciate helping people. That's your essence, your purpose. Instead of breaking your head by discovering a profession, think first about your abilities, what you are good at doing, what stands out, and what people recognize as being a quality in you. This first step of self-knowledge will help you to pursue a profession appropriate to your purpose.
Now you need to find information on which professions require this skill and see which one you most identify with.
