How long and how much police academy is?

I want to make people feel safe, and feel comfort. I want to bring down the bad guys and bring justice to many people. I want to save as many lives an I can and make them better in any way. #law-enforcement

Hilary’s Answer

Police academy will not cost the recruit anything since the city or tow.n pays for it when you have been hired. It can last anywhere from 8-12 weeks away from home in the barracks of a state police department.

Hilary recommends the following next steps:

Find the physical tests and train
Look for twins hiring
Find out qualifications maybe college

Kerri’s Answer

Police academy lengths vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and state to state. Some departments are hiring like crazy while others don't have the funds to hire. I have seen academies go anywhere from 16 weeks to 26 weeks. Some of it depends on how much job related items are covered in the last few weeks before graduation. I don't want to divulge too much but these are elements you will be dealing with daily, computer software and searching vehicles etc. In addition the best way to go is to find an academy or police force that is hiring and paying you to go to the academy. I DO NOT recommend going to a POST academy without being paid to do so. This is an expense on your part and does not guarantee you a job afterwards. Some places like California do this. I say again look for precincts and cities hiring you to go to the academy and they will pay for everything. Some academies are militaristic while others are more academic. But understand both will require adequate physical fitness and extensive classroom work. If you have attended college or enjoy studying several new chapters and taking tests on topics every week no sweat. Just giving a realistic view on what the academy is all about. Hope that helps!!
