What's your favorite thing about your 8th hour class mates?

I want to become a nurse but I'm too scared of needles, my aunt is a nurse and while taking class they will have to show you how to put a needle in on your arm. #nurse #needles

Thank you comment icon My daughter is terrified of blood draws and has been a nurse (LPN, then RN BSN) for 11 years now. You don't have to be the the volunteer in most programs unless you want to. Especially if you have a phobia. Their are more dummies to use for a lot of than in years past. A school that doesn't respect that would not be one I would not pick. You can certainly ask during your searching process to find out the process they use. Don't sell yourself short if that is what you want to do. My daughter has had no problem drawing other people's blood, starting IVs or giving injections and it makes her very empathetic to patients with similar fears. Connie DiPietrantonio

Jami’s Answer

Most colleges do not do that anymore. Most colleges use mannequins and have you practice on patients in clinical.

Lynsey’s Answer

As Jami said, most schools don’t do this anymore. I would not worry about getting poked unless you have concerns over whether you would be ok poking others.
