There are many different types of doctors. Family practice- which is general medicine, then there are more specialized doctors- cardiologist (heart), pulmonologist (lungs), neurologist (brain), orthopedic (bones), urologist (urinary system), gastroenterologist (digestive tract), etc. Any part of the body that you are interested in.
As far as a day in the life of a doctor- well most doctors have clinic hours where they see patients that make an appointment and come to the office, then they also have to go to the hospital to see patients that are admitted and need that kind of doctor to see them. They take turns being on-call for the nights and weekends in case there is an emergency.

I would recommend shadowing a few physicians in the hospital and clinic just to get a feel for what it is like.
