Here in the UK, you can do pretty much any subject undergraduate degree, followed by a postgraduate conversion course to teaching called a PGCE.
I'm not sure whether there's an equivalent option where you are, maybe a postgraduate MA in education; but I think the more normal route into elementary teaching in the US is a specific undergraduate degree in Teaching or Education.
It probably also varies state-by-state, so I'd recommend checking the requirements for a teaching license in your area.

Hi Annaleigha,
Here in the US, it’s best to major in Elementary Education if you want to teach elementary school. Many people choose to major in a liberal arts subject, but this can often leave them struggling when it comes to classroom management, developmental psychology, or teaching techniques. The easiest path to take is to think about which state you want to work in when you finish your degree, then choose a college in that state to attend. Each state does have different requirements to earn your teaching license, and in-state teaching programs tend to walk you through exactly what you’ll need. In some states, you’ll be able to teach with just a Bachelor’s degree, in others you’ll need to get a Master’s degree as well.
Good luck to you in all your future classrooms - as a student and as a future teacher!

Hello!
The most common major to become a teacher at the elementary level would be elementary education! With this degree it will provide you with courses that will help prepare you to become a teacher! Then you will need to take some teacher tests. These will vary depending on the state you live in as well as what type of teacher you would like to be! Whether you would want to be a general classroom teacher or a special education teacher!
Hope this helps
Dana
