What are the requirements for Culinary Arts?

Some hobbies I am interested in is listening to music, dancing, playing volleyball, and baking. I have other questions to ask such as; What are some colleges you recommend for Culinary Arts? Will there be some traveling involved for different restaurant businesses?

Hello Zoey:

Thank you for your question. I love the Food Network (ie, Guys Grocery Games, the Pioneer Woman, Girl Meets Farm, Valerie's Home Cooking, the Kitchen, Iron Chef, etc. ). I have several food apps but, "YUMMLY" is my favorite. Although I am NOT a master cook and cannot advise on my experience, I'd like to share with you some resources for your consideration. I wish you success on your journey. Best of luck to you!

Hi Zoey! So glad you asked a question about Culinary School as I'm a Culinary Arts Graduate! I think Patrick and Sheila have given you some good links to check out so I'll just share my personal experience. Culinary School has a wide range of folks attending from entry level cooks/chefs to people looking to change their career to entrepreneurs. It's very diverse and a wide range of ages of people that attend so just be prepared for that! I was fortunate that I found my passion for Culinary early on so decided to attend Culinary School after I had already become a chef working my way up through the restaurant world. I used my Culinary Arts Degree to springboard me into Management and beyond ultimately overseeing national business and having some international clients. Having the culinary background and degree really helped me to progress within the F&B and Hospitality industry. To answer the second part of your question, yes more than likely if you are successful and as you work your way up within an organization (especially a national company) you will more than likely experience travel. Really depends but I went from regional travel of about 30% up to recently traveling Nationally as well as Internationally almost 90% of my time. Hope you find the right school. Really focus on Chef Instructor to Student ratio as the smaller the class, the more hands on learning you will experience. Good luck!
