Is being a Locomotive Engineer a hard Job.

I'm a teen looking at future Job opportunity and I thought I would get some advice on what it is like being a Locomotive Engineer. #jobs

Hi, you do NOT necessarily need an undergraduate degree. Candidates must be 21 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED. Having sharp vision, excellent hearing and good hand-eye coordination is a big plus. You typically would require to get into an entry level job before becoming an engineer through on-job trainings. The average salary for a Locomotive engineer is around 62K.

I wouldn't say it is a hard job, but your quality of life can certainly be sacrificed. Most railroad companies are based strictly on seniority, and until you get any, your life is theirs. Your shifts can be very long, and you are on call 24 hours a day. If you want to have a family, I would not suggest this job. Life is too short.
