Is MIT a good college to go to if I want to become a pediatrician?

When I grow up I want to be a pediatrician. I want to find out more information about colleges. #medicine #healthcare #pediatrics #college #majors

Thank you comment icon Hey Victoria! I have many friends who are currently in college, and a few who are at MIT. MIT is not a great school for pre-med because they specialize so heavily in engineering and physics. Most likely you'll be stuck in a bunch of required courses that are crazy hard and not relevant to your major. For good pre-med programs, I'd suggest you start looking at schools on this list: https://www.collegexpress.com/lists/list/the-experts-choice-superior-pre-med-programs/199/ Abby Lupi, Admin
Thank you comment icon Any college can help you get the pre-med requirements. It is important to attend a university where you can get a High GPA that prepares you for the MCAT. It is also helpful to do medical research and shadow physicians. Each university should be able to tell you the school's med school admission rate. You should go to a school that has a history of success in getting students into med school. MIT is a prestigious university, so I am sure it would be a great university to attend before medical school. Good Luck! Estelle Archer

Hello, Victoria!

I recommend you speak with an Admissions Counselor at MIT to learn more about their MD program as well as their residency program.

Best of luck with your education, professional, and personal endeavors!

Veena’s Answer

Hi Victoria,

While there are many pathways to going into medicine, MIT does have an undergraduate program in Biology and students who complete the program go onto a variety of careers, including medicine and public health. More information can be found here: https://biology.mit.edu/undergraduate/current-students/career-development/.

Please note that MIT does not have a medical school, but provides resources on how students can think about preparing to apply for medical school here: https://capd.mit.edu/grad-and-med-school/apply-medical-school.

Best,

Veena
