If your goal is to become a doctor and start your own practice and minor in business would certainly help manage your finances better. Alternatively you could hire an office manager or administrator to do that role.

Hi, you do not need a business degree to build your own Doctor offices. You do not need a business to start a business honestly, it does teach a lot of things, but its things that you learn as you go on. You can learn those things buy watching YouTube videos and taking an Intro to Business class at your local community college. I have a bachelors in business administration and I did enjoy studying that but if I wanted to start my own business I would not have gone to college unless my profession or business required it.

Hi tytiania,
The short answer is no. However, running a business and being a doctor can require two distinct sets of skills that may not be innate in the person. I would say if you want to own your own practice, you would need to consider if your medical degree programs set you up for success in a business environment. I think that if your goal is private practice after earning your medical degree, then you should take business courses in your elective classes. Make sure that the emphasis is, whenever possible, small business ownership. College level business courses can be valuable even if you do not end up with a separate degree in business.

I am not exactly sure what you are trying to do. Are you a doctor? Do you have any business experience?

If you are a physician and do not have the background or training to run your own office you may be quite frustrated by everything that entails. If you are just starting your studies and are contemplating becoming a physician and running your own office it would be a great idea to take some business classes along with your medical classes -- or doing a business degree in undergraduate school and then a medical degree. This will not only give you the skills to run an office, but will also give you a sense of which side of the business - practicing medicine or running a medical establishment - you gravitate towards more strongly. One suggestion is to work for some time in a doctor's office to get a good sense of what you need to run one.
