Deborah D.’s Answer

Hi Ahmad!
Your determination to succeed and follow your dreams is the fuel for your passion.
I just have to express my concern about your feelings about a second choice being an indication of doubt.
Sorry not true, not true at all. A lot of actors became actors professionals after doing something entirely different for quite some time. Please remember that. A second option is a back up plan that will pay the bills in between gigs, and stuff like that.
Please be careful not to pigeon whole yourself, or not give consideration to some out of the box opportunities that may come your way because, "I only want to be an actor!"
Here's a very interesting article about choices,

Georgeta’s Answer

I attended Berklee College of Music, which actually catapulted my theater career! Any school is a good school for the arts. It's what you make of it.

Also, you can learn techniques till the cows come home. But you won't succeed in theater unless you're a good person, work well with others, and have passion. I've been known to kick people out of my shows because they end up being terrible to work with. Your behavior on one gig determines the next.

Good luck!

Chris’s Answer

Great question and the answer is ANY, or NONE. First decide do you want to do theatre? Film? Both? I have a degree in theater from FSU, and was so excited about my time there. I learned a lot and I grew a lot as a person. However, training can be done anywhere, it doesn't have to come from a "college". There are acting schools around the world with great training. Sometimes people go to college and step out into the real world 4 years behind everyone else that just launched into the business.

Learn the craft, and learn the business. Contracts, agents, headshots, reels. Learn how they all work and it will improve your ability to navigate the business.

Schools can sometime become a little outdated. You have the internet, use it to your advantage. Find out who is attending which schools, research people that you know that are finding success and find out where they study. Things like facebook and instagram will be great tools to do research.

Get involved with local theaters and talk to people booking the roles. Where do they study?

Everyone's career path in this industry is different. Listen to all of them, then choose your own.

Chris recommends the following next steps:

Join a community theater.
Find actor groups on social media.
Look up the actors on IMDB.
Ask them what their journey was.
