List some colleges/universities with a great STEM program aside from the more-popular options, such as Ivy League schools, Georgia Tech, etc?

Many institutions that are cheaper yet offer the same, or better, education to students don't get as much recognition in the press.

I recommend Cal Poly if you can get to California! Excellent engineering and science programs. They have some of the top engineering programs in the country. Also they are cheaper than the UCs and private schools. Unfortunately you might not get the cheap side of it if you're out of state.


There are a number of other California State Universities with good programs, but Poly is probably the best.


Edit:
Also, don't discount community college. Depending on the school you can get the same classes for the first two years, save a ton of money, and then take that money to whatever top-level school you want.
